00:00:00: welcome back to new episode of sweet but salty the bliss point of podcasts.

00:00:05: i love saying my intro.

00:00:07: it's so much fun.

00:00:10: and um today our topic isn't so much one, to be honest.

00:00:15: I am jumping right in...I'm struggling with insomnia again..i've struggled with this for many years.

00:00:24: like five to seven years ago I was in a really bad place mentally.

00:00:31: i think it was two thousand and seventeen, which is the worst year And then twenty nineteen was another pretty bad year.

00:00:38: um but i wasn't a really negative headspace.

00:00:42: It's definitely due to sleep deprivation Which i didn't see at that time.

00:00:47: so my problem Was basically?

00:00:49: That i couldn't fall asleep and i had To stay up till three in the morning and next day or like couple of hours later I had to get up at six.

00:00:58: so i had effectively three hours of sleep each night.

00:01:02: it wasn't the case.

00:01:03: like every night, i slept a little longer sometimes especially when i didn't have to get is definitely too little for me.

00:01:18: i'm a person who needs nine to ten hours to function optimally, I know that's a lot but I also have an autoimmune disease.

00:01:25: so I think that kind of augments-that's such a bad word.

00:01:29: it kind of just heightens the need for more sleep.

00:01:32: now I've restarted the keto diet...I was on keto for more than six months five or six years ago and it was actually a really mixed experience especially because I developed a rash which i have developed again.

00:01:49: And this time around, I've also had insomnia issues so I couldn't sleep!

00:01:53: And...I would lay in bed every single night till like two-three AM after going to bed at eleven the latest.

00:02:02: So..i would lay there for three to four hours not able to sleep couple of days this time, but it just had me thinking about the times back in those days when I was struggling so bad with sleep every single night and it's a constant for months.

00:02:23: That i want to take that opportunity actively preventing you from sleeping.

00:02:37: Please, please try and not do it anymore!

00:02:41: I know it's easier said than done.

00:02:43: i know doom scrolling is a thing... i know caffeine as a thing.

00:02:47: energy drinks are a thing but your body's gonna thank you if you get enough sleep each night.

00:02:51: yeah.

00:02:52: so i titled this episode insomnia is a blessing in disguise because I feel like our body talks to us and it's through certain things we call symptoms, so... Things that aren't going our way or the way that we want them too.

00:03:11: And those things are communicating to us there is something out of equilibrium.

00:03:16: We're not balanced anymore.

00:03:18: so what i mean by insomnia as a blessing in disguise is just simply the fact that firstly we should make an effort to stay positive, I know it's super hard and its a challenge for life but to be grateful under every circumstance to just think of what the situation is trying to teach us.

00:03:41: And I think there's so much information in that, and so much to learn from that.

00:03:46: when we just view insomnia as a signal form our body to ourselves that there is something out of sync.

00:03:55: In my case it was really just this switch from eating sugar or burning sugar as fuel To burning fat for fuel.

00:04:03: But i'm still sensing due to a couple of other things that ketosis is probably not the way to go for me, especially because of the rash.

00:04:11: That really hurts actually but that's just a side note.

00:04:15: so firstly we should be grateful in every situation and secondly We should just accept that our body is talking to us In a way that we need to understand I guess.

00:04:26: And it's hard sometimes.

00:04:27: It's hard often To Be Honest Because its easier to not listen.

00:04:32: it's easier to chug more coffee and push yourself through, and really hope that the symptoms just pass.

00:04:43: The truth is even if this happens its very likely something else will surface which is going to bother us also.

00:04:55: it's incredibly resourceful and highly functional, so if you get a symptom that you don't like just ask yourself what the reason could be.

00:05:07: And i'm trying to do the same on a regular basis and really try to be a lot more open and honest with myself in inquiring about reasons for certain things.

00:05:20: So I really hope you enjoyed this episode, even if the topic was a little maybe potentially negative.

00:05:26: but i just want to reiterate how important it is to listen to your body!

00:05:30: It's like fundamental.

00:05:32: so...I wanna thank you so much for tuning in.
